By 1989 all Long Beach Island municipalities joined Long Beach Township. the organizations name became referred to as the Long Beach Island Health Department, to better reflect the interlocal service area. The responsibility for providing public health services is mandated by the rules set forth by N.J.A.C. 8;52, Public Health Practice Standards of Performance for Local Boards of health in New Jersey. These standards outline the Ten Essential Public Health Services.
